How we handle privacy, stories, and trust.

Voices Unheard Inc. operates this website. We collect as little personal information as we can, and we do not sell, rent, or trade it.

What we collect when you contact us

If you send a message, ask to partner with us, offer supplies, or ask to be notified when giving opens, we receive what you type: typically your name, your email address, your organization if you give one, and your message. We use it only to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation. We do not add you to a marketing list unless you ask us to.

Children’s stories

Our storytelling program only exists with permission. A guardian gives written consent, the child agrees, and the child decides what is shared. Stories are published anonymously, with identifying details changed or removed. We do not publish photographs of the children we serve. Consent can be withdrawn at any time, and when it is, we stop using the story and remove it from the places we control.

Letter data

Letters are the most sensitive thing we handle, so the two sides never see each other. We keep a writer’s contact information only so we can coordinate with that writer. We do not keep a child’s address in the same place, and we never share it. A child’s name and address are never given to a writer, and a writer’s contact information is never given to a child. Every letter routes through Voices Unheard or a partner organization and is read before delivery. We keep letters only as long as we need to for delivery and safeguarding, then we destroy our copies.

Journals

A journal we give a child is theirs. We do not read it, collect it, or quote from it.

This website

The site uses no advertising trackers and no third party analytics profiles. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which may include an IP address, for security and reliability. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Anything embedded from another service is governed by that service’s own privacy policy.

Your choices

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@voicesunheard.org and we will respond. If you are a guardian and want a story or a letter record removed, tell us and we will do it.

   Guardian consent comes first

   We do not collect, record, or publish anything about a child without written permission from that child's parent or legal guardian, and without the child's own agreement.

   No identifying details leave our hands

   We never publish a child's full name, school, city, facility, case details, or photograph. Stories are shared anonymously, and identifying details are changed or removed before anything is published.

   Letter writers and children stay separated

   Letter writers never receive a child's name or address, and children never receive a writer's contact information. Every letter routes through Voices Unheard or a partner organization and is read before delivery.

   Adults are screened and never alone with a child

   Volunteers who may have contact with children complete a background check and an onboarding conversation. Direct one-to-one contact between a volunteer and a child is not part of any of our programs.

   Journals belong to the child

   A journal we give a child is private. We do not ask to read it, collect it, copy it, or quote from it.

   Consent can be withdrawn at any time

   A guardian or a child can ask us to stop using a story at any point, for any reason, with no explanation needed. We remove it from anything we control and stop future use.

   Mandatory reporting

   If we learn that a child may be at risk of harm, we follow Tennessee reporting law and contact the appropriate authorities.

Online giving opens once Tennessee charitable solicitation registration is confirmed. Until then we accept in kind supply donations and partnership conversations, and we will not ask you for money through this site.
